Re: PDW 700 Menu

Personally, I would stick with the basic settings as delivered but with a few small changes.

1 Ensure Matrix is switched on – default should be ITU Rec-709 Table 2.

2 Set White Clip to whatever your local broadcaster recommends.Typically in the range 102 – 105%.

3 Default Gamma should be ITU-Rec 709 Table 5, but you could try HyperGamma 1 as an option.
Change Gamma Table from STD to HG.
HyperGamma 1 will lift the greyscale slightly and put in a nice roll-off at the top end for control of highlights. Knee, Slope and Auto Knee will automatically switch OFF.
HyperGamma vs ITU Rec-709 Gamma is subjective, you may love it or hate it. You may find it suits some shooting styles better than others, or not.If shooting Rec-709 Gamma, then I would suggest DCC OFF for indoors and ON for outdoors.

4 Detail, I would strongly recommend -20 as the default setting for DTL Level on the DETAIL 1 page.

5 If shooting SD, then perhaps also turn SD Detail ON SD DETAIL PAGE but adjust SD Detail Level also to -20. This will add a little punch to the SD pictures without overcooking them. Note: Minus 20 SD Detail is still adding quite a lot of enhancement compared to SD Detail OFF.

6 Personally I like the OFFSET White function, and would suggest adjusting B to say 3400K rather than default 3200K – just adds a little warmth to the pictures. This feature is scaled so that it does the same job under daylight conditions to add a little warmth. These settings should give you good all round pictures, nothing dramatic and nothing crushed etc. Material can easily be tweaked in post if necessary. With Hypergamma, it is also possible to lower the Master Black pedestal if required, but be carefull not to crush – as anything crushed is lost forever.
